West Palm Beach Fire Rescue is going shopping!
This week, word came from Washington DC that WPB Fire Rescue has been awarded approximately $186,000 as part of a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant.
The money will be used to purchase new safety gear, including updated bunker gear (the protective coats, pants and boots firefighters wear on the job), as well as physical fitness equipment. A portion of the money will also fund a department injury prevention program.
Fire Rescue officials applied for the funding, and several elected officials helped to push it through. Among those who stepped up to help WPB Fire Rescue was Senator Bill Nelson, together with Representatives Lois Frankel and Alcee Hastings.
