Why didn't I get that job? What could I have done to improve my chances?

Unemployment among the city's African-American young men is higher than many other demographics. Many times, the difference between getting an offer or not boils down to basic skills.

On Saturday, May 7th at 11:00am, a Career Path event will teach those basic skills.

The event will take place at the Salvation Army Northwest Community Center at 600 N. Rosemary Avenue in West Palm Beach.

Part of West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio's Village Initiative, the event will target young African-American men in the city.

The goal of the Mayor's Village Initiative is to improve the outcomes of African-American young men in the North End of the city. This event is designed to eliminate barriers to employment and introduce them to different career paths that are available to them. Although the focus of the event is African-American males, nobody will be turned away.

The Career Path event is an important part of a multi-phase plan to increase employment. A Youth Job Fair is also scheduled for later this month.
