Just four years ago, the City of West Palm Beach only had about 7,000 followers on Twitter.

In just four years, that number has grown more than four times to hit a milestone.

On Tuesday, the City of West Palm Beach Twitter account, @WestPalmBch, passed 30,000 followers. It is the most followed city in Palm Beach County by a mile, with the next closest city having only a quarter of the followers and most cities only having about one-tenth the number of followers.

Social media experts says the growth is a sign that more people are turning directly to the source for news about their city than ever before.

To mark the milestone, West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio recorded a thank you message...
