It’s not often a single school receives a donation that can significantly change the lives of students. But that is the plan behind a major donation to Northmore Elementary School.

Today local businessman and philanthropist Jeff Greene donated $30,000 to Northmore Elementary School, one of the elementary schools in the City of West Palm Beach.

The money will allow teachers at the school to receive training in one of the industry’s latest breakthroughs in classroom management and learning. Northmore’s faculty will have the chance to learn about and implement the techniques of Conscious Discipline. Conscious Discipline is a longtime leader in integrating classroom management and social-emotional learning. It utilizes everyday events rather than an external curriculum, and addresses the adult's emotional intelligence as well as the child's.

The donation is part of a joint effort by West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio and the Palm Beach County School District to target Northmore Elementary School and provide the resources needed to improve the school’s performance.

“One of the most important measures of a community is how well it educates its children, and I am pleased to help ensure that we are doing everything we can to give our young children any advantage possible,” said Jeff Greene.

“Jeff’s donation is the kind of private sector partnership that we need to help our children,” said West Palm Beach Mayor Jeri Muoio. “We all have a stake in helping our schools succeed.”

“Our schools thrive when the community is involved, whether that involvement comes through philanthropy, encouraging people to volunteer with our students, or innovative partnerships with local governments,” said Palm Beach County Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Avossa. “We appreciate Jeff Greene’s generous donation to promote teacher training and development at Northmore Elementary, and the City of West Palm Beach’s efforts to help Northmore’s students succeed.”

Mr. Greene’s donation is just one element of the joint City-School District plan for Northmore Elementary. Other elements, provided by other community partners, include improvements to classroom libraries, the donation of electronic tablets for student use, the inclusion of art programs for the kids, and the participation of the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach in providing various reading programs for kids.
