West Palm Beach City Hall wants to give everyone a heads up on a pretty important road closure happening next month.
For four days in May, All Aboard Florida (AAF) will be closing Okeechobee Boulevard at their tracks (alongside Quadrille Boulevard) in order to install a second set of tracks and equipment needed to put in a quiet zone for the high speed rail line.
The closure will be from Friday, May 13th @ 8pm until Tuesday, May 17th @ 6pm.
For that stretch of time, both the eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed around the clock.
The city has been working with AAF on adjusting their plans in order to have the least amount of impact on drivers, including asking them to move the project from during the week to partially over the weekend.
Traffic folks are working on details of a detour plan, but the bottom line: Try to use Southern Boulevard or Palm Beach Lakes to get to downtown West Palm Beach over those four days.
West Palm Beach police will be out in force helping to direct traffic where needed, but you will need to check the detour info because you may not be able to get everywhere as quickly as usual.
Also, keep an eye out for some out-of-the-box ideas from Mayor Jeri Muoio to try to reduce traffic as we get closer to the closure.
As soon as a detour plan is in place, you can find it here first. Until then, consider this a month-long heads up.
