A West Palm Beach resident has written a major check to support mental health education. Marla Kosec has given $100,000 to support a program called “Breaking the Silence.”
The program focuses on mental health education. The donation has made it possible for the Action Alliance to introduce the “Breaking the Silence” curriculum at five elementary schools, produce the Lovewell musical “Weight of Words” at five high schools, expand after-school FRiENDS clubs in middle schools, and provide Mental Health First Aid training to 1,000 adults, among other initiatives.
Kosec hosted an event at her West Palm Beach home, where she presented the check to Abbey Strauss, MD, president of the Florida Psychiatric Association and a director of a non-profit group called Promise.
